Kopua upsets for Ken Myers
November 14, 2024
Kopua post race including winning jockey, Lily Sutherland

·         Whilst fine extremely strong wind dominated the conditions for day two of NZ Cup Meeting 2024.

·         MATSCOT was second favourite on the tote but favourite sentimentally for a Riccarton Park victory in the $250,000 TAB Mile. The result that locals wanted was not to be with $25 chance KOPUA getting up late to beat MATSCOT and PERFECT SCENARIO in the Group 3 feature. For a horse trained at Wanganui KOPUA is not far from being a local with 13 of his 31 starts being at Riccarton Park for the KT Myers seven-year-old.

·         KOPUA was one of three winners on the day for the Wanganui maestro the others being FINE PROPOSITION in the stayers maiden and ISLAND HOP in the last for CJC Life Member Barry Thomas. Stable apprentice Lily Sutherland rode all three.

·         The Tony Pike trained ACQUARELLO took the days other Group 3 feature the Windsor Park Stud Canterbury Breeders Stakes. The Pitman trained THIRD DECREE was second ahead of GOLDIE’S CHANCE.

·         JON OL ROCCO beat PATSYS LASS in the open stayers race the Avon City Ford Premier for Riccarton Park trainer Andrew Carston.
