Shaking Stevens and connections post-race
- The North Canterbury Ward committee runs the 3rd day of the Riccarton Park Spring Season with the feature race being the $50,000 Waimakariri Businesses North Canterbury Cup. South Canterbury took the northern spoils by way of a game victory to SHAKING STEVENS. Trained by Stephanie Faulkner for a large and enthusiastic syndicate was ridden by promising northern apprentice Tom Wigram.
- The feature sprint also $50,000 was the TAB Mile Prelude. MYSTIC PARK was solid as equal favourite for the Group 3 metric mile on the middle day of the NZ Cup Meeting after carrying topweight to victory in the prelude. Another northern apprentice Jack Taplin rode the seven-year-old gelding for Riccarton Park trainers Michael and Matthew Pitman.
- There was not a more excited owner on course than Board member Nigel Johnston after his filly DULCE CABALLO scored a debut win in the Pavilion at Riccarton Park Three-year-old. Trained by Lance Robinson and ridden by stable apprentice Kendra Bakker DULCE CABALLO defeated the favourite ZAFAR and Ruakaka trained FRAUDSTER.
- Only five horses competed in the first juvenile race of the southern season after the scratching at the barriers of CAMP FORTE. John and Karen Parsons continue to breed quality racehorses and their very good mare KIWI IDA produced CORONADA to win the 800 metres dash in the hands of Rohan Mudhoo.
- For good measure Rohan rode FINAL TIME to win the last race on the programme for the Parsons. FINAL TIME is the last foal of their outstanding Group 1 winning mare FINAL TOUCH.
