Spring Racing Day 1 - 2 September Review
Te Akau dominate with 4 winners
September 04, 2023
Viva Vienna ran 57.95 seconds to win over 1000 metres.
  • The first day of the 2023 Spring Racing Season drew and average field size of 12.25, the biggest for two decades.

  • The Te Akau Racing were yet again a dominate force preparing four winners on the eight-race card.

  • It was great to see the Windsor Park Stud colours amongst those four winners with IT’S BUSINESS TIME defeating WATCH OUT and RHONDA WOOD in the Cantabrian Magazine Rating 75.  Windsor Park are great supporters of the Club with annual events being held each year such as the Racing, Rugby and Beer lunch and an annual stallion promotion.

  • Sam Weatherley rode IT’S BUSINESS TIME as he did VIVA VIENNA in the Three-year-old race whilst Opie Bosson rode the aptly named INSATIABLE and CHALLA in the Pryde’s Easifeed Open Sprint.

  • Local trainers Russell McKay and his daughter Ashley look to have a promising horse on their hands in POWERFUL MOSS.  The six-year-old ran out a strong winner of the Open Metric Mile defeating EARS BACK and TARAMEA LAD.

  • As does Andrew Carston with JON OL ROCCO who took his record to two wins in only five start when winning the last on the card.
