Polytrack Racing Review - 4 May
First meeting of the Polytrack season
May 05, 2023
  • The anniversary of the inaugural Riccarton Park Polytrack raceday was held on Thursday 4 May 2023.  Seven races were held with a healthy average field size of 10.9.

  • The programme was designed to complement the Feature meeting on the Saturday with maiden races and lower rating events the order of the day.

  • There were several impressive winning performances particularly some coming from well off the pace.

  • SIR ALBERT looks to be a horse of some promise.  He was most impressive winning the 1600 metres maiden for trainer Terri Rae and premiership leading rider Michael McNab.

  • McNab also scored aboard DEVIL IN DISGUISE in the opening race a 2200 metres maiden for Lance Robinson.

  • Riccarton Parks Assistant Course Manager Ryan Thistoll dabbles in training and prepared LA SUPERBA to race away with the 1400 metres maiden.  Former Riccarton Park apprentice Kozzi Asano did the steering.

  • ASANO made it a double later in the day winning the NZB Insurance Pearl series race for former employer Andrew Carston.

  • An innovation was a roll out mat to provide a lane for horses to cross the Turf Course Proper to access the Polytrack whilst protecting the grass for the meeting on Saturday.
