Polytrack Racing - Day 6 Review - 12 July
Les Bennetts celebrates 100 years
July 15, 2024
Les Bennets receives a gift from Canterbury Jockey Club Chair, Dianne Logie.

  • Polytrack Racing took place on Friday 12 July 2024 with a nine-race programme. Maiden races were at $22,000 and Rating races $32,000.

  • The main race of the day was named in honour of member Les Bennetts who celebrated his 100th birthday earlier in the week. Les attended the races with a group of family and friends to witness CHAIRMAN run out a most impressive winner. The winner was fittingly named as Les had chaired the Hororata Racing Club in his time and CHAIRMAN is part owned by Mat McCarthy the current Hororata Chairs and CJC board member. Richard Didham recorded his 100th training success with CHAIRMAN and Leah Hemi was the rider.

  • Broodmare COMPACT PUSSYCAT left the winner of the first race MUZZLE CAT and the last race PEECEE PUSSYCAT, both races being over the 2200 metres distance. Both horses are raced by their breeders Colin and Tina Nimmo with the former trained by Ross Beckett and the latter by Samantha Wynne. Wynne also rode PEECEE PUSSYCAT whilst Terry Moseley partnered MUZZLE CAT.

  • The three-year-old race drew a small but interesting field. The Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson satellite stable prepared MITRE PEAK to win from MOTIONTIME and HIVARI. Stable apprentice Nirajan Parmer is in a battle with Lily Sutherland to be New Zealand’s champion apprentice and the win put him one a head.

On a day with added stakes money fittingly it was shared around with all nine races being won by different trainers and jockeys.
