Retiring Course Forman recognized
June 01, 2024
Turf War post race - Dave Parr (far left)
  • Race 8 acknowledged the retirement of long serving Course Foreman David Parr. Samantha Wynne has done a sterling training job with the one-time difficult TURF WAR who recorded his fifth win in the event. Michael McNab was the rider.

  • The previous race recorded the retirement of trainers Peter and Dawn Williams. Ironically, Dave Parr was foreman for the partnership when they were basing at Ashburton and Riccarton Park. The promising WAR COURT, like TURF WAR a son of Inglewood Stud stallion WAR DEECREE, was an emphatic winner. Trained by Brian Court the four-year-old was ridden by Michael McNab.

  • McNab rode three winners to Warren Kennedy’s sole win to close the gap in the race to be champion jockey this season.

  • All nine races were won by different trainers all being locals except for Rangiora conditioner, Kenny Moore, who saddled FRANNI CACCINI to take out the sixth on the programme.

  • The Late Trevor Luke’s colours were carried to victory in the opening event by VOICE OVER. Trained by Ross Beckett the three-year-old is also part owned by Peter Winchester the Chairman of the Canterbury Rugby Football Union.
