  • The second day of the 2024 Polytrack season took place in pleasant winter conditions.

  • The Feature meeting attracted 110 starters at an average of 12.2 per race.

  • The Coca-Cola Open sprint went to the Te Akau trained CARAVELLA who had to survive a protest from the connections of the second placed runner DEAR OH DEAR who had travelled from Cambridge for the occasion. DEAR OH DEAR had been a winner on the main Polytrack race at the Grand National Festival in August.

  • Trained at Riccarton Park by Ryan Thistoll, STRIKE FORCE was the most popular winner on the day when he triumphed in the Martin Collins Rating 75 over the 1400 metres. The eight-year-old’s ownership group includes Riccarton Park Crossing Keeper Brad Thistoll, groundsman John Allen and NZTR Riding Mentor, Jason Laking, whilst Ryan Thistoll is the Riccarton Park Assistant Course Manager.

  • The Canterbury Jockey Club Operations Manager Phil Leabourn had the days other Rating 75 race named in honour of him contesting the Firefighter Challenge, a race up the Sky Tower in Auckland in full firefighting kit. Sam Bergerson and Mark Walker got their second winner of the day with TREATY OF PARIS in the 2200 metres race. A new track record of 2-13.83 was recorded in the process.

  • Michael McNab and Kozzi Asano both rode doubles on the programme.
