- The benefits of the Polytrack were evident in the week of the fifth day of the 2023 Polytrack season with Trails on Tuesday and races on Thursday. The meant local connections did not have to travel far to trial or race.
- Raceday may have been a defining moment in the race for the South Island Trainers premiership. Andrew Carston prepared three winners, DAME COUNTY R1, THE ARCTIC BLAST R2, and PROPER TWELVE R4. Team Pitman clawed one back with THIRD DECREE in race 6 but Carston finished the day leading the trainer’s premiership by 36 wins to 33. But never count the Pitman’s out.
- Paul Harris also had a good day with two winners including WIND IN MY WINGS in the last race for part owner past Chairman of the Canterbury Jockey Club Gordon Fulton.
- Kavish Chowdhoory was the leading rider on the programme with three wins.
