- Matthew and Michael Pitman went into the meeting with a one-win lead over Andrew Carston in the South Island trainers premiership. At days end both stables were locked at 31 wins apiece.
- The Pitman’s won the opener with RUSSIAN ROULETTE, part owned by up-and-coming commentator Dan Fogarty, whilst Carston won with OH NO NO NO, a recent addition from the Ken Harrison stable, and PEUT RESPIRER in races 3 and 4. The latter gave James Hornbrook, one of the most enthusiastic local racegoers, his first winner on his home track.
- Terri Rae also trained the winners of two races with SECRETXPRESS, Race 2, and ROCASTANO in the last of seven. ROCASTANO took his record on the Polytrack to three wins from 4 starts.
- Another training highlight on the day was Rangiora conditioner Paul Harris recording his 500th winner when ROYAL KHAN won the NZB Insurance Pearl Series race by 1/500th of a second.
- Brandon May, who two months ago shifted from Timaru to Riccarton Park to ride for Andrew Carston, rode two winners on the programme. One of those was RICHARD STOMPER in the 1600 metres maiden for Phar Lap Raceway trainer Stephanie Faulkner who took her Polytrack record to 24 starters for 3 winners and 8 placegetters.
