Well Written dominant in Guineas
November 10, 2025
Well Written returns
  • A star is born. WELL WRITTEN burst onto the scene cementing her stardom winning the Barneswood Farm NZ 1000 Guineas unbeaten at only her third start. The Cambridge filly is trained by Steven Marsh and was written by Asutralian, now New Zealand domiciled jockey Matt Cartwright. LOLLAPALOOZA was a very good second from BELLE CHEVAL and BONA SFORZA.

  • The quinella in the Nautical Boat Insurance Metropolitan trophy moved into joint $4 favouritism for the NZ Cup after the race. JUST CHARLIE led all the way to beat TITICACA. Nobel Knight rand third ahead of KINDLING SPARK to be $14 and $18 chances respectively in the Cup. Logan Bates rode the winner for Wanganui trainer Kevin Myers and man who knows how to win a New Zealand Cup.

  • Bates had travelled to Christchurch to ride against his mother recent 1000 winner club inductee Kyle Williams. It was the second of his two winners on the day after riding ENTERPRISE in the One Good Horses at Avonhead Tavern Premier in the third race. Kyle joined her son on the winners list aboard impressive winner PLATINUM PANTHEON in the Scenic Hotel Group Premier.

  • The Windsor Park Stud Canterbury Breeders Stakes was shifted from the middle day and drew a very good field. Group 1 winner of last years NZ 1000 Guineas CAPTURED BY LOVE was favourite and justified that tag with a classy return to winning form. Bruno Queiroz stood in for an injured Opie Bosson aboard the Mark Walker & Sam Bergerson trained mare.

  • Awapuni trainer Lisa Latta had saddled up PLATINUM PANTHEON and in the next race did the same with PLATINUM ATTACK for a convincing win in the 1000 metres Donaldson Brown Pregasus Stakes. Craig Grylls rode the sprinter to beat AZEEZLE and TEXAS DOLLY.

  • The north south count was 7-4 in favour of the northern trained horses with Kevin Myers and Lisa Latta each training two winners and Logan Bates, Craig Grylls and Kate Hercock each rode two winners.
