  • A real family affair in the feature the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai NZ 2000 Guineas.  PIER part owned and bred by Darryn and Lou Weatherley and trained by Darryn in partnership with daughter Briar provided Darryn with the Group 1 win that eluded him as a jockey. Michael McNab rode the winner of the 50th edition of the 1600 metres Classic.  DESERT LIGHTNING tried valiantly to give Peter and Dawn Williams and the Green Beemsterboer ownership team a Group 1 win finishing second with the filly PROWESS third.

  • Australian jockey Josh Parr gained a listed win the famous tangerine and blue colours of Te Akau Racing winning the feature staying race on the programme, the Nautical Boat Insurance Metropolitan Trophy, aboard CAMPIONESSA.  ALJAY and JACK KNOWS BEST filled the minor placings.

  • Awapuni trainer Lisa Latta inevitably gets a good result when travelling horses to Riccarton Park.  LINCOLN’S KRUZ provided that in the Listed sprint the Donaldson Brown Pegasus Stakes, beating the locally trained ROCKLAND and the southerner BOUYANT.

  • A popular winner on the day was Gee Saejorhor aboard the John and Karen Parsons trained AMBERECHO in the fourth race on the day. Gee returned to raceday riding after a three season absence from the saddle.

  • Northern stables scored seven wins to the three achieved by South Island Stables.
