Christmas At The Races Review - 5 December
Vibrant end to the 2025 year of racing
December 08, 2025
He's A Battler post race

  • A good crowd attended the last meeting of the Riccarton Park 2025 calendar year in extremely windy conditions. All Christmas hospitality options were sold.

  • The meeting was held on the Polytrack with the annual renovation of the Course proper in its grass growing stage.

  • Foxton trainer Suzy Gordon is making a habit of successful raids on the Riccarton Park Polytrack and Friday was another. Her team of three produced RUJI and HE’S A BATTLER to win the first two races over the 2100 metres distance whilst DOUBTFUL SOUND was unable to make it a perfect treble running last in the Ultimate Design & Renovation Rating 80.

  • WITZ END won that 1400 metres contest, the fifth race on the programme, for the potent combination of local trainer Terri Rae and Awapuni jockey Leah Hemi. The ownership of the five-year-old SAVABEEL gelding includes renowned bloodstock agent Guy Mulcaster, Cambridge trainer Tony Pike, ex jockey Leith Innes, and former New Zealand cricket representative Simon Doull.

  • The country’s leading trainers Mark Walker and Sam Bergerson prepared three winners from their South Island base. Bruno Queiroz rode the three to go with RUJI in the opening race to give him a quartet of winners.
