Donaldson Brown SI Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes post-race
- EPPE BEEL had been a Listed winner as a three-year-old filly and stepped up to become a Group 3 winner when taking the Donaldson Brown South Island Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes. LOFTYS GIFT and QUINTABELLE filled the minor placings behind the Michael and Matthew Pitman trained mare. Ashvin Goindasamy was the winning rider.
- Twenty-one years away from training has not dented the ability of David Walsh to prepare winners. Exciting juvenile ZELIA ran them ragged in the days two-year-old event and TOA HAKA was a one length winner of the Moorpork NZ Pig Farm Rating 75. Both horses were ably ridden by Rohan Mudhoo who took his record with the former master jockey tuned trainer to five rides for three winners and two placings.
- Riverton trainer Graham Eade has a good record travelling horses north to Canterbury and now in partnership with granddaughter Brooke Kincaid that record continued with RIVIERA REBEL keeping up a strong gallop to win the Seaton Family Memorial Hororata Gold Cup. Northern jockey Jasmine Fawcett rode the promising four-year-old to beat ELEGANT LADY and fellow southlander MASTER MARKO.
- The time honoured Petersens Jewellers Ladies Bracelet went to the Samantha Wynne trained and ridden KELLANZOR narrowly from LILY, Both fillies had performed creditably in listed races at their previous start.
