Autumn Racing Season - 6 May Review
Lightning Jack gets a deserved reward,
May 08, 2023
  • Riverton to Riccarton Park again for Team Tyler and another feature race win with LIGHTNING JACK storming away with the Daphne Bannan Memorial Great Easter Stakes.  Underrated rider Krishna Mudhoo rode the six-year-old who recorded his eighth win in 40 starts. Owners Alan and Marie Tyler were oncourse to receive the trophy.

  • The days other feature was also a $65,000 listed race but for the two-year-olds.  Whangārei based Kenny Rae has long been a very good trainer of two-year-olds and with daughter and training partner Krystal Williams now having a Christchurch based stable he was able to send ILLICIT DREAMS south to prepare for the stake race assignment. Most pundits though that the race would be between the two favourites PENVOSE LAD and CU CHULAINN but they had to settle for second and third.

  • The Riccarton Park Function Centre sponsored Great Autumn Handicap over the 2600 metres open the day with MISS TAVI upsetting the hot favourite PRINCE ALBY.  Lyn Prendergast and Kylie Williams combined to train and ride the winner.

  • All eight races were trained and ridden by different trainers and jockeys.
