Beneficial returns to winning form

Beneficial with connections post race
  • The highlight of the fourth day of the Riccarton Park Summer Racing Season was the return to winning form of the good mare BENEFICIAL.  The Ross Beckett trained mare had last won 23 starts ago in October 2018 but in 17 of those starts had finished 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th including twice at Group 3 level. A canny ride by stable apprentice Kin Kwo along with his 2kg claim was instrumental in the topweights win.
  • The win was Kwo’s second on the day having won the first race about the Steve Hewitt owned and trained FIONNUALA.
  • Tina Comignaghi also rode two winners including the Lynnie D Maiden aboard float for the John and Karen Parsons stable to whom she had been apprenticed.  The race was named in honour of the late Lynne Duncan a stalwart of the Riccarton Park Function Centre for whom she worked up to her 81st year.  Lynne passed away the previous Sunday and a memorial was held in the Show Gate the day before.
  • Life Member Barry Thomas had a day to remember for the wrong reason being on the wrong end of a protest.  His promising gelding ISLAND HOP looked to have made it back-to-back wins in the Janet Frances Rating 65 but interfered with the runner-up CLOONEY to the extent that the result was switched in the inquiry room.  Rooney is owned and trained by Bevan and Robyn Wilson and was ridded by Racha Cuneen.
