11 March Raceday Review
Parsons Stable Wins Feature
March 12, 2021
  • After a rationalisation of racedates and venues when the calendar was released for this current 2020/21 Racing Season the time honoured Marlborough Racing Club was not allocated its annual two-day fixture in April.  This decision coincided with the year in which the MRC would be celebrating the 100th running of the Marlborough Cup at Waterlea Racecourse.  Rather than let the occasion slide by the MRC decided to approach the Canterbury Jockey Club regarding using a race and a date at Riccarton Park to celebrate the occasion.  A $25,000 stake resulted in the race being the feature on the programme.  In the birdcage prior to the race John and Karen Parsons expressed a real desire to win the race having won the 99th running with CAMINO ROCOSO. RAIMAN was the least favoured of the Parsons runners but prevailed to take the race from ANYTHINGCOULDHAPPN and BELINDABELLA.
  • The days open race over 1400 metres celebrated staunch supporter Coupland’s Bakeries 50 years of existence.  Steven Marsh had two runners in the race and again the lesser favoured won.  BELLE FASCINO in the hands of Rahul Beeharry led all the way beating stablemate BRONTE BEACH.
  • A most fitting winner on the day was MISS CURIOUS who is owned by Beau McRae a member of the Amberley Committee who ran the day.  The five-year-old mare was convincing winner of the last race for Wingatui apprentice Corey Campbell and Rangiora trainer Steven Woodsford.
  • Two very impressive maiden winners were three-year-old MILFORD SOUND in the 1600 metres race who was very short $1.50 favourite winning by 4 lengths and ROCKLAND in the second of the 1200 metres maidens who paid $1.70 and won by 6 lengths.
