Racing Behind Closed Doors
Hororata Raceday 21 March
A strong card of nine races, featuring the Group 3 Valachi Downs South Island Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes, will take place at Riccarton Park Racecourse on Saturday, 21 March, behind closed doors.
In response to the Government’s position on gatherings of greater than 500 people racemeetings in New Zealand will, in the immediate future, proceed with only those participants essential to making raceday happen.
The applies to the Riccarton Park-Hororata Meeting on Saturday. Owners, members and general racing fans will not be able to attend the races.
Regulations imposed by New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing (‘NZTR’) ensures that racemeetings can proceed and generate income for the racing industry from the operation of the offcourse wagering. The key to what has taken place is that racing will continue for the benefit of as many as possible of those New Zealanders that derive their living from the sport.
Fans of racing can continue to watch and following their sport through the Trackside TV Channels.
Besides the days feature the Seaton Family Memorial Hororata Gold Cup has dawn a quality field of southern stayers. Headed by the grand galloper WHO DARES WINS (pictured) the field includes the Australian Group 1 winner PATRICK ERIN who is back in New Zealand with original trainers Brian and Shane Anderton after recently campaigning from Chris Waller’s Sydney stable.
The Canterbury Jockey Club is indebted to Saturday’s sponsors headed by Kevin Hickman’s Valachi Downs who have continued their support of the Hororata Raceday.
