Te Akau captures another Guineas

  • NOVERRE was a sensational winner of the Al Basti Equiworld Dubai NZ 2000 Guineas® clinically disposing of the field after storming home from the rear.  In Doing so he gave David Ellis his seventh win in the race, jockey Opie Bosson his eighth and trainer Jamie Richards his third (first in his own name).  MERITABLE finished second, ahead of FIELD OF GOLD and MANA NUI.
  • MR INTELLIGENCE gave Tapanui owner trainers Nikki and Barrie Blatch a day to remember winning the Nautical Boat Insurance Metropolitan Trophy.   The pair had produced LEROY to win the sprint maiden, the first race on the day with both being ridden by quality southern jockey Jacob Lowry. BEAUDZ WELL ran a strong second with evergreen mare MADAM DE SOIR third.
  • Up and coming sprint star BABYLON BERLIN travelled on the plane to trounce the field in the Donaldson Brown Pegasus Stakes for Cambridge trainer Ben Foote and Wanganui rider Lisa Allpress.
  • Club Chief Executive Tim Mills had good start to Cup Week owning a share in ANCHOR ME an impressive winner of the Garrards Horse & Hound maiden over the 1600 metres.
  • The north south count was 8-3 in favour of SOUTH ISLAND stables
