Barneswood Farm to Sponsor NZ 1000 Guineas

18 years of gavelhouse.com/New Zealand Bloodstock support recognised

Barneswood Farm have today been announced as the new sponsor of the Group 1, New Zealand 1000 Guineas at Riccarton Park Racecourse from 2020 taking over from gavelhouse.com. (see image as sponsors of the Welcome Stakes today)

“We are delighted to be able to confirm Barneswood Farm at this time and thank Sarah Green and Ger Beemsterboer for their investment in this very significant event on the New Zealand racing calendar” said Canterbury Jockey Club Chairman, Gordon Fulton.

Barneswood Farm have previously sponsored the Welcome Stakes so stepping up to the $300,000 Guineas represents a major commitment.

Mr Fulton praised previous sponsor gavelhouse.com and their parent company New Zealand Bloodstock.  “Our association with New Zealand Bloodstock and their support of this race has been outstanding.  Early this year we received timely communication that the 2019 running would be NZB’s final sponsorship of the Guineas which gave our Management the opportunity to seek a replacement.  We appreciate such a professional approach which has been a feature of their 18-year commitment to the race and record our gratitude for this long-term relationship” he said.

“We are very proud and excited to be involved as sponsor of the NZ 1000 Guineas, a race that we have had success in the past with Planet Rock in 2011 and in 2018 with Media Sensation” said Sarah Green.  “We are also delighted to be able to support the industry that we love and being from the South, to be involved in a Group 1 race in Canterbury has huge meaning” she added.

“New Zealand Bloodstock is proud to have had such a long association with the New Zealand One Thousand Guineas under our NZB and gavelhouse.com brands,” said NZB managing director Andrew Seabrook.   “There have been some outstanding winners over the years.  Horses like Powley, Noble Heights, Burletta, Canterbury Belle, Phillipa Rush, Tycoon Lil, The Jewel, Seachange and Katie Lee.  An impressive roll of honour with many of these fillies having gone on to have a major impact on New Zealand’s breeding landscape.  We’d like to thank the Canterbury Jockey Club, Tim Mills, Chris Rowe and the Board for the excellent partnership we’ve had over this time and we look forward to watching future editions under the Barneswood sponsorship banner,” he said.

New Zealand Bloodstock will remain as sponsors of the four race Southern Filly of the Year Series, three of which are run at Riccarton Park.
