Race Day Style

Looks for the 2020 Summer Race Season are characterised by both colours and cuts that show off sun-kissed skin to optimum effect.

As well as revealing bronzed shoulders and chests with V-necks, off-the-shoulder lines and spaghetti strap styles, the dresses this season also accentuate curves. Made from beautifully cut fabrics, often also with intricate detailing, these dresses are sure to make you stand out from the crowd. Consider a heart shaped neckline to accentuate a full bust. Or a slitted skirt to show off a slim length of leg. Even an element on the edge of costume such as over-sized dramatic sleeves, can be used successfully to highlight an athletic frame and toned limbs. Additionally, structured waists, pleats and peplums as well as lace edgings all play a part this season in making an outfit pop. The attention really is in the detail.

To both balance and put a focus on these details, colour is at the heart of this season’s styles. It’s all about extremes this year. Either bold colours such as citrus shades or a vivid crimson, or pale tones in lilac and nude. Common to both colour palettes, is that they both set off summer-brown skin well.

Headwear is always an important aspect of race day fashion whether it be fascinators, turbans or flower crowns and this season is no exception. We all know that accessories can make or break a race day outfit, and the range available for this year’s upcoming racing events mean’s there is a style that will suit nearly everyone. It’s not just about head pieces though. Jewellery this summer is as large and dramatic as the headwear. Earrings tend to be oversized and usually dangly. Used at their best, they act together with other carefully chosen accessories to create an unforgettable race day look.

Also unforgettable are the structured elements central to many of this summer’s dress styles. Structure can serve as a dramatic focal point where the dress becomes the star. Alternatively, it can act as a platform for the woman wearing the dress to get noticed for all the right reasons.

The combination of bright colours and manipulated fabrics used in conjunction with a dramatic use of accessories creates a bold signature style to be inspired by for upcoming events. With plenty of skin on show alongside well-put together outfits, this summer’s race season promises to be one where I would bet good money that style will be at the centre of the conversation trackside.
