Our Fashions co-ordinator Angela Stone offers the following tips for the day

Race wear sits in its own distinct sphere within the realm of fashion - a hybrid of English garden party, brightly plumed glamazons and corporate chic. Its lady-like, elegant and feminine - and most essentially it is daywear. Race wear is sometimes confused with evening wear, with women occasionally dressing more so for a night out than a day at the races. A hat, fascinator or hairpiece is an essential component, and the true race day outfit is really only appropriate for race day attire. The outfit must also be appropriate for the weather and the climate of the day.

Co-ordination - It is essential that the utmost consideration be given to the complete co-ordination of the outfit. This includes jewellery, hat, shoes, hosiery and makeup - complete styling from head to toe.

Poise - Polish and poise definitely come into the equation. This includes grooming, grace and deportment.

Style and Originality - Understanding and interpreting current fashion trends scores additional Kudos. Certainly not all fashion trends can be translated into style worthy race wear, but outfits that reflect suitable aspects of the season’s latest silhouettes and colour palettes will give an original and modern edge.

Attention to detail - It’s the little things that count - heels are not chipped, shoes are clean and tidy and hair is in place.

Most importantly have a fun day!
