Zacinto Stakes
The Zacinto Stakes cements its place as a key lead up to the Sothys New Zealand 2000 Guineas® and the gavelhouse.com 1000 Guineas®, all three races being held at Riccarton Park. The 1600 metre three-year-old feature will again be run for $70,000 on Labour Weekend, Saturday, 22 October 2016, $20,000 above the standard stake for a Listed race.
Canterbury Jockey Club Chairman Jeff McCall says the Club is excited by the continued development of this race and in particular this support from the owners of Zacinto allowing the race to maintain a raised stake level. “We are delighted to find an ongoing partner to present this important spring feature”.
These sentiments are echoed by Inglewood Studmaster, Gus Wigley, “We’re very pleased to be sponsoring such a progressive race that has in recent years, increased in importance as one of the key lead up races to the respective Guineas. It has been won by some very good horses and with Zacinto making a flying start to his stud career, we hope some of his second season gallopers will be seen in the Zacinto Stakes this spring”.
Winners since the higher staking are Group 1 performers Risque (2015), Platinum Witness (2014) and Atlante in 2013.
