Wednesday Races In Review
•Chris Johnson took two further steps to winning a second jockeys premiership with wins aboard IRISH EXPRESS and ZAWHIP.
•IRISH EXCUSE is trained by Ellis Winsloe of Gore who also prepared ACCIDENTAL OFFSIDE to win the sixth race the Remembering ‘PV’ Rating 75. That race being named with sponsorship of a large group of friends, in memory of a popular local identity Paul ‘PV’ Venis who passed away 12 months ago to the day.
•Both geldings are out of the O’Reilly mare Irish Babe who also left an older sibling IRISH EXCUSE who won for the same trainer at Wingatui on Sunday.
•Fellow southland trainer Kelvin Tyler also trained a brace of winners with ex-Riccarton Park trained VICE MARSHALL and ODI ET AMO. Senior jockeys Terry Moseley and Lee Callaway, respectively, rode the winners.
•Tanya Jonker, a fast improving apprentice with Riccarton Park trainer Kevin Hughes, scored a well received win aboard DO UNO WHOIAM in the final event, the Racecourse Hotel & Motor Lodge Rating 65 using her 3kg claim to defeat Chris Johnson in the process.
