Tina Comignaghi on fire
- Classy rider Tina Comignaghi stole the show on the first day of the Riccarton Park Summer Racing Season riding five winners. She won the first four races on the eight race card – IDLE LADY for the Champion/Murphy partnership, MIANNA for Lance Robinson, REPUTABELLE and POSTCODE ENVY for the Pitman partnership – and the 7th race aboard POLAR NIGHT for John and Karen Parsons.
- Masterton trainer Alby McGregor has been a most popular trainer in the Central Districts for decades and his McGregor tartan and white colours were carried to victory by AWATENE in the last on the day. AWATENE had campaigned on the West Coast Circuit for Alby but transferred to the stable of his son Dean and remained in the south to be Deans first runner and first winner.
