The final Riccarton Park racemeeting of the season was dominated by horses trained south of the Waitaki River with four southlander’s and one Wingatui trained horses taking major honours.
Grand mare MISS THREE STARS is the apple of jockey Samantha Wynne’s eye and the pair combined to win the days feature the 1600 metres Greenwood Amberley Cup for Ascot Park trainer Tommy Beckett. In doing so she took her earnings past the $300,000 mark.
Riccarton Park trainer Pam Robson produced a smart mare in DRESSEDTOKILL in the days open sprint the Sonia & Garry Thompson Open Handicap. The four-year-old took her record to four wins from only seven starts.
Ellis Winsloe returned from his Gore base with IRISH EXPRESS in the TWS Group Two-year-old and after his win in a similar event on the course two weeks earlier punters sent the gelding out a very hot $1.50 favourite. Under Chris Johnson he worked hard to run out a strong winner and hopefully set himself up for some lucrative spring targets.
RAWMATERIAL looks a most promising galloper for Riccarton Park trainer Jumbo Didham and made it three wins from only five starts in the Smiths Hire Rating 75.
The most aptly named horse at the meeting was ALL BLACK MAGIC (The All Blacks paying and defeating the Lions later that evening) and the three-year-old was one of two winners for Kelvin Tyler when winning the opening race on the card.
