Riverton stable claims feature
- Little mare FLYING SARDINE is as tough as old boots. After winning at Ascot Park on a heavy track on the Sunday she was brought north five days later and, again in heavy going, proved too strong for a small field this time in the Christchurch Casino Open Handicap. Stable apprentice Brett Murray rode the Kelvin Tyler owned and trained five-year-old.(see image)
- The days other Open Handicap was the Speight’s Mid Ale and once again Ashburton owner trainer Bevan Wilson was in the winning stall this time with WIZE ACT. The four-year-old daughter of ZACINTO had recorded all four previous wins in heavy going and made in number five with a powerful performance under Lisa Allpress.
- Local trainer Terri Rae prepared two of the days winners. MOYRABELLA in the hands of Sam Collett won the gavelhouse.com Rating 75 whilst in the days opener she also rode the promising MISS BRAHMOS to win the Mid Winter Christmas Races June 23 Maiden after have run second at her previous three starts following a debut third placing.
- The days last race produced a dead-heat between OPIHI RANGER, for trainers Mel and Warwick Coles, and FIRE LILY, for Lance Robinson.
- Board Member Steve Hewitt was celebrating a victory after WHISKEY IN THE JAR whom he owns and trains won the 1600 metres maiden.
