Christmas at the Races Highlights
Enzo's Lad wins for the Pitman Stable
- A Group 1 winner competing at a ‘Tier2’ feature meeting would seem to be a ‘good thing’ and so ENZO’S LAD proved to be in the Skelton Brothers Open Handicap. The programmes’ feature race was over the same 1200 metres distance that ENZO’S LAD had recorded his Group 1 Telegraph Handicap win at Trentham in January. Matthew and Michael Pitman stable apprentice Kavish Chowdhoory was the winning rider and scored a brace of wins on the day with the Pitman’s winning three.
- There could not have been a more fitting winner of the Ray Sharpe Memorial Maiden than UPSCALE. The Club’s Commercial Manager Chris Rowe delivered the eulogy at Ray’s funeral and is a partner in the NZ Bloodstock South Island sale graduate. The three-year-old filly, who promises much, is trainer at Riccarton Park by Danny Crozier who once played rugby in a team coached by Rowe and was ridden by Southland apprentice Brett Murray.
- The last race at Riccarton park for the calendar year was the Dunstan Feeds 1500 Championship Qualifier which was taken out by the Andrew Carston trained HEE’S OUR SECRET in the hands of Jacob Lowry.
